Wedding day emergencies are part of the excitement when it comes to getting married. You just never know what’s going to happen. From forgotten flower girl baskets to ripped hems to the ever-popular fainting bridesmaid, weddings are an adventure. Every adventure is better when you are prepared for it, so here is a wedding day emergency kit to get you through those unexpected, not-so-memorable moments.
Start by obtaining a container for your kit. It can be a bag, such as a makeup or tote bag or a plastic container such as a school supplies box. Whatever you choose, labeling it in large letters and decorating it if you wish will help ensure you don’t forget it. The question of what to put in your emergency kit varies depending on which wedding planner you ask, but most suggest the following:
- An extra pair of pantyhose for the bride
- A small sewing kit
- A bottle of clear nail polish to stop runs or tears in pantyhose
- Emery boards for fixing broken nails
- A bottle of hairspray
- Wet wipes
- Gum or mints to freshen breaths, especially for that all important kiss
- Kleenex for the mother of the bride
- Tylenol
- A pair of scissors if they are not including in your sewing kit
- Several Band-Aids,
- Safety and Bobby Pins
- A phone list with vendor and bridal-party information
- A couple tampons
- Extra copies of your vows or other special readings
Martha Stewart also recommends, “Toupee tape sounds silly but holds fallen hems and straps that slip; it’s strong and safe for skin.” Having an emergency kit put together can lower your stress level and help you feel prepared to deal with whatever crisis comes up. If you feel you will be too preoccupied, give the responsibility for the kit to one of your bridesmaids. Hopefully you won’t need to use the items in your kit, but it’s such a relief to know you have them “just in case.” Try to brainstorm with your wedding planner or bridesmaid to make sure there is nothing else you might possibly need. You may end up looking like Jennifer Lopez in the movie “The Wedding Planner”, but hey; at least you’re prepared.
