It used to be that weddings were a day where you said your vows in front of close family and friends and it was really just a good excuse to dress up and celebrate. However, it has slowly evolved into being one of the most momentous days of your life. Theme weddings have become very popular and having a theme to your wedding and reception is a great way to truly enhance this special day planned correctly will ensure that you will remember your theme wedding for many years to come.
Start With You
You'll need to think of a theme that suits you and your spouse best. The best way to come up with one is to think about what is important to both of you. It might be nice to imagine yourself with a beach theme wedding, but you should only do that if you have some special tie to the beach. You don't just want to pick something that sounds fun if it has no ties to you as a new family. A Mexican fiesta might be a fun theme, but if you aren't Mexican, it might not mean as much as it could. Brainstorm with your spouse to be and see if there is something about the two of you that you can include in your wedding theme, and decide on something together. If you are into hiking, a great theme could be the great outdoors. If both of you are musicians, a lovely theme could include music and harmony. You want to focus on something that is meaningful to the both of you.
Find a theme name
Next, you should find a name for your theme. If your theme revolves around the great outdoors, why not call your wedding The Great Adventure? If you are music enthusiasts, maybe your wedding should be "Uniting in Harmony". The point would be to have a small phrase that you can use to describe your theme and wedding as well. This phrase can be a great theme to use on napkins or other decorations, and it can be fantastic to use on the wedding invitations, thank you cards or anything else that you might want to use it for. Remember that a theme name can be a terrific way for you to tie your wedding day & reception together.
Start With Big Things
Now that you have a theme and a name, start with the big things about your service and your reception. If your theme is Art, think about ways that you can incorporate it into the bigger wedding picture; a canvas backdrop or table cloths that your guests can draw on. A beach theme could take place at the beach - or could at least have decorations that make it look like the beach. If you can find one or two major parts of your ceremony or your reception to go with your theme, you are well on the way to planning the entire thing with your wedding.
Look At Stationery
Just like your wedding colors are going to be a big part of the stationery that you use for your invitations, wedding website, for your place cards, and for other things, your theme will also be a big part. Here is a great place to use that phrase you came up with, or to use other things that you might want to use in order to tie it all together. Remember that you are going to be talking about many things during your day, so you should use your theme to tie them all together. You can do this by putting it on your stationery as well.
Small Details
The small details, however, are really where the theme is going to live. Use paintbrushes in your centerpieces or put shells into them if you've got a beach theme. It is the very small details of your wedding that you will find great use for your theme within, so be sure that you are thinking about each of them and deciding how you can incorporate your theme. There are lots of ways to put your theme into the details, so be sure that you are planning ahead.
Ceremony
Your ceremony might be decided upon by whoever is performing it, but you want to be sure that you incorporate your theme if you at all can. You can talk about it during the ceremony or have one of your speakers give a speech that relates back to the theme. When you give your thank you later in the day, these can also revolve around your overall theme.
If you plan carefully, you can have your entire wedding revolve around one theme. This can be a great way for you to get the most out of your special day, and you will be able to truly have the memories of the best wedding ever. Having the right wedding theme will make your wedding even more memorable for both of you.
