Choosing Music for a Unique Wedding

The music that you choose for your wedding will not only be meaningful to you as a couple, but it will set the tone, mood, and theme for your entire day. The music played throughout your ceremony and wedding reception is a direct reflection on the atmosphere you want to create for your special day. Choosing music for your unique wedding is just as important as choosing the right venue, wedding dress, flowers, and everything else!

If you want a truly unique wedding, you should think about choosing truly unique music. That idea may seem a little scarier than it actually is when it is really quite simple. The music you choose for your wedding should be based on your personal style as a couple and nothing else. Do not choose music based on what you think others would enjoy or what the magazines tell you is popular. Choose songs and music that mean something to you as a couple and you cannot go wrong.

In times past, the traditional Wedding March was commonplace for the bride's walk down the aisle. Everyone knows it but everyone doesn't love it. And if you don't love it, or classic tradition, then why have it as part of the biggest day of your life? Today, it is much more acceptable to think outside the box when it comes to wedding music. It is perfectly acceptable to choose modern music, or even popular songs, as an integral part of your ceremony and reception.

With modern songs, especially those that mean something to you as a couple, you can notch up the level of uniqueness at your wedding instantly. With contemporary songs you can easily express the sentiments that you are thinking and feeling. Remember, any song that is dear to the two of you is worthy to be included in your ceremony or reception - even if it is The Beatles, Sonic Youth, The Cure, Radiohead, or even your favorite rap artist.

While many weddings have employed a live band or quartet for the ceremony and subsequent reception, plenty of others have had successful events with the use of a DJ. Furthermore, in today's tech savvy world, many couples are saving a load of money by using their very own iPods or mp3 players pre-programmed with playlists for different times throughout the party.

Just remember, the music you choose will set the mood for your wedding, so pick carefully. While it is an overall simple job, it is one that takes some time and plenty of thought. If your wedding has a theme, for example, you will want to choose music that flows with that theme easily. If your wedding is going to be a fun, relaxed, and whimsical event, choose what might put you in a lighthearted and free mood.

Music for the wedding ceremony should be meaningful but not too fast or slow. Because much of the ceremony involves the prelude, processionals, and recessional, choose songs that everyone will feel comfortable walking down the aisle to. Think about how long the songs are as well, to ensure that everyone has ample time to get down the aisle and into their respective places.

The reception is essentially a big party, so choose music accordingly. Yes, you will want to choose music that will please the crowds, but don't forgo your personal taste in the process. A good DJ will always know how to mix it up. When choosing specific songs for your special dances, think about songs that are meaningful to each individual and that have a nice dance pace to them.
